Words That Cut Way Too Deep...

She hears those all too familiar words.
Those words that belittle her,
They discourage her,
Curse her,

They come from the voice of her father,
From the voice of her uncle,
Her step dad,
her grandfather.

They tell her that she will never amount to anything
They tell her that she is no good.
She's worthless
Lazy
Ugly

She believes them.

That little girl grows up with such a pain in her heart from the words that have cut way too deep.
She knows the reasons why she has issues with relationships.
With trust.
With life.

She doesn't know how to fix what has been broken inside her,
how do you erase decades of negativity,
brainwashing,
depression.

She believes she's all too blessed to have at least had God even in those days.
She knows there are others out there, in the same situations she was in, who don’t have Him at all.
How hopeless they must feel,
How desperate,
How sad.

She imagines a God, with His arms wrapped around her as she lies in a pool of her own tears falling asleep at night.
She imagines a God standing next to her as she receives those words of hate, of darkness, and of death...
She imagines him there... whispering in her ear words of love, of light, and of life.

He tells her that she is beautiful, she is wonderfully made.
He tells her that she is loved beyond any measurements of this world.
He tells her that she can be all that he has called her to be

He will lavish her with sweet nothings, but will she open her ears to hear?
Will she open the book, the book of letters that He has written especially for her?
Will she see... what's there in black and white?

His love can cover a multitude of sins,
A multitude of hurts,
Of the past that is no more.

Open yourself and receive,
All the Grace he so mercifully gives.
Grace that washes away the pain
Grace that covers those deep wounds like a soothing balm.

He gives it freely.
Come and receive.
Let the Word of the Lord wrap you in a sweet embrace.

Put Your Little Self In The Hands Of a Great and Mighty God...

I was 6 years old and playing at a neighbors house. I didn’t realize how late it had gotten and outside was getting dark.

I was scared of the dark.

My friends’ mom promised me she would stand at the door and watch me cross the three yards to my house. So I began my walk, very slowly.

Every few seconds I would turn around to make sure she was still standing at the door, to make sure she was still watching me… then it happened.

When I was 10 feet from my yard, I turned around to find she had closed her front door.

I was terrified.

As long as that door was open, I didn’t feel alone… I felt safe.
The minute that door shut, I was alone. Outside. In the dark.

So I did the only thing I could think of…
Call on the name of Jesus.

In my six year old mind I began to repeat His name over and over…

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus…
It then turned into:

Jesus love me this I know,
For the Bible tells me so,
Little ones to Him belong
They are week
But He is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
The Bible tells me so

I imagined my little self in the hands of a great and mighty God, safe from all harm.

I repeated the song twice before I reached the door to my living room, into the safety of my own home.

I never forgot that. From then on whenever I would fell anxiety, or whenever I was scared about the situation I was in I would sing “Jesus Loves Me.”

So the other night when my four year old climbed into my bed and announced she was scared of the dark, I shared my story with her.

I told her that as long as she calls on the name of Jesus, He will be there… right by her side, and she will have nothing to fear.

So today, as you sit there reading this, facing the unknown,
As you hit uncertainties head on,
As you feel your anxieties getting the best of you…
Just remember.

Jesus loves you this I know,
For the Bible tells me so,
All of us to Him belong,
We are week
But He is strong
Yes, Jesus loves you
Yes, Jesus loves you
Yes, Jesus loves you
The Bible tells me so.

He does, He loves you unconditionally and He wants to give you His peace.

So when the door of certainty closes behind you...
remember to put your little self in the hands of a great and mighty God.

15 Habits of Great Writers: Jeff Goins

For as long as I could remember, I loved to write.

I remember taking pencil and paper and making squiggly lines in all shapes and sizes before I even knew how to form correct letters of the alphabet.

There were times when family member would proclaim excitedly that it looked like I had written a letter a, e, or o.

It was my favorite pastime, scribbling and doodling on that blank piece of paper.

I remember looking up at signs adorning the tops of our schools hallway, and not being able to read any of them. I was so anxious to be able to read and to write actual words.

When I was finally able to put together words... i took off. I was advanced in both reading and spelling in school.

I was unstoppable.

I wrote my first poem at age 7. I no longer have it, but it was about a red bouncy ball (before Dora or Boots were even a thought in anyone’s minds.)

I wrote shorts stories, and poems constantly from that point forward.

I remember the excitement I would feel when I would receive a new tablet for school, or any other time of the year for that matter.

The smell of the new paper, the white clean pages all just waiting, asking, to be written on.
I would spend hours on hours just writing.

It was a way of escaping for me... I was either writing or reading at any given time.

I would win every essay or writing contest I entered in the years that followed, and I've always second guessed myself when it came to my writing.

You know what... never once, never ever once, did it occur to me that I might be a writer.

I don't know where the epiphany came from. Maybe it had something to do with an inkling of a desire to write a book... which lead me to do research on writing and getting books published to see if it was even a feasible idea. I came across this e-book...  You Are A Writer... and for some reason, I realized... I might be a writer.

Why this thought never occurred to me before that point I have no idea. How a few small sentences in an e-book could bring such revelation in my life is unfathomable to me, but it did.

I don't know where things will go from here, but I know I can't wait to see how God will use the desire of writing he placed in the heart of a little girl to bring Him Glory.

The author of that e-book, Jeff Goins, is having a link up, 15 day writing challenge he's titled "15 Habits of Great Writers"

I've included the link below.

So if you are a writer, or someone who just likes to write, perhaps you would consider joining with us?

There's no cost at all involved, it's absolutely free, and who knows what revelations you might receive in those short 15 days.

See you there!

Five Minute Friday : See

When you’re checking out and the clerk on the other side is being rude, can you see?

When you make it home and your children are fusing and fighting with each other, can you see?

When your husband is a little grouchy, can you see?

When the teen with purple hair and tattoos crosses your path, can you see?

Can you see beyond the actions…

Can you see beyond the exteriors…

Can you see beyond the smiles of the women at church?

Can you see beyond the shyness of the little girl with the balloon?

Can you see the their very being?

Can you see to their soul?

There’s a reason…

There’s a reason why that clerk is rude, what has happened to her that morning, what has happened to her in her life to make her react in such a way?

What kind of a day, what kind of stresses have your children, your husband gone through?

That teen with the purple hair and the tattoos… has anyone ever been there for them?

Has anyone ever shown them the way? What part of them are they trying to mask, to cover up?

The women who hide behind smiles… while their hearts are breaking in two.

The little girl who’s sadness brings her to be withdrawn, everyone mistakes it for shyness…

How can you be there for them today?

How can you change the pattern?

Don’t go on without seeing… without stopping… and truly seeing.
