Her Daddy Was Killed By a Drunk Driver

Sunday, October 21 when Mark and Sarah left their baby girl Sophie with an aunt to walk a few steps down the road to the store, they never could have imagined it would be the last time he would see his daughter. On the walk back from the store Sarah and Mark were ran over by a drunk driver. Sarah escaped with scrapes and bruises, but the accident claimed Marks life.

Little Sophie is only a year old, she will never remember the love her father had for her... but thank God they left her behind, I don't want to imagine what could have happened had her father been holding her on the walk back.

This family lives right next door to me, and my heart breaks for their unnecessary loss. I felt like I needed to do something... but what can you do?

The only thing I know I'm good at... I began to sew.

I made little Sophie a name quilt... I quilted a heart at the top and stitched her daddy's name in it. I stitched a second heart near her name and placed her mommies name in it. I'm waiting for a picture of her daddy holding her and I will place it on the back of the quilt as a label, in memory of her dad.

These are the new quilts I now offer in my Etsy shop... the ones with a personal prayer hand written on a piece of muslin and quilted in with the batting. So each time this little girl wraps up in the memory of her daddy.... she's wrapped in a prayer.

Please keep this little girl and the family of her dad in your prayers.

I thank you.

My Great Great Grandmothers Homemade Hot Chocolate Recipe

If you are looking for a simple, yet yummy, hot chocolate recipe that will feed a group... boy do I have one for you.

Everyone who tries my great-great-grandmothers homemade hot chocolate asks me for the recipe. It's not overly chocolaty, not too sweet, it's the perfect warm me up on cold days, especially with a plate of biscuits or beignets! mmmm MM!

This is one of my families recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation.

Hot Water
3 Cups of Sugar
5 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
1 or 2 Cans of Pet Milk (or cups of milk)

  1. Fill a pot (or crock pot) with water, as much water as you want hot chocolate, and put to boil (or cook if in crock pot).
  2. Meanwhile, In a mixing bowl blend together 3 cups of sugar and 5 Tbsp of cocoa powder.
  3. To the sugar mixture add 1 or 2 cans of pet milk depending on how large of a pot you are making (or 1 or 2 cups of milk, but pet milk really makes the cocoa) I would suggest starting with one can, and if you think it needs it, add the second.
  4. By this time the water should be heating up, add the sugar, cocoa, pet milk mixture to the water and let it heat up all together for 5 or 10 minutes (this may take longer if using a crock pot).
  5. Pour into cups, top with marshmallows or whipped cream and enjoy!
See! Super Easy and oh so yummy!!

What's your favorite go-to family recipe for these chilly days approaching?

Study The Word Wednesday: What Effect Does My Attitude Have On Others?

What Effect Does My Attitude Have On Others?

It's amazing how positive words can encourage us. How do you feel when someone has said something positive about you?

Christians need to be aware of how they influence others. Jesus said, “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:13). This is a goal worth striving for.

Our joy can show in our speech and actions in many different ways. We can affect people by our speech and actions. Take, for example, a group of teenagers: If one person begins gossiping about someone, it’s not long until most, if not all, of the group has joined in.
Have you ever been in a room where someone started yawning? What happened? Soon everyone in the room began to yawn. Why? For some reason, yawns are contagious. Our attitude is much like a yawn. If we are positive and reflect Christ, those around us will want to be like us. If, however, we are negative, those around us will soon follow our lead.

Jesus was teaching on salt and light when He said, “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.” (Matthew 5:13). He wants us to be set apart from the world and be His light. If we follow His example, we can be a positive influence on those around us rather than a negative one. “We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works” (Ephesians 2:10).

Titus 2:7-8 In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.

1 Peter 2:21To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

Hebrews 4:12For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

As Christians we need to be aware of how we appear to those around us. Think hard about yourself, and ask yourself these questions.

  • Do I reflect Christ?
  • Does my attitude affect others in a positive way?
  • Do people enjoy being around me because I make them feel good?
  • In a group setting does my attitude lead others to be Christlike, or does my attitude bring others down?

Remember, that you are called to lead others toward Christ, not away from Him.

Ask God to help you walk in Christ's steps and be a light for Him in the darkness of this world.

End Of The Rainbow.

On my way home from church Sunday afternoon, the kids and I noticed a beautiful rainbow in the sky. We loved that that it was a complete rainbow...  very bright and vibrant. I told the kids of Gods promise to us, and how the rainbow came to be. As we continued to drive we noticed it looked as if we were going to run right into it!

I happened to look to the side of me, and there in the open field was the beginning of the rainbow... touching the ground! I was so excited the kids thought I was going nuts! In all my life I've before seen such a thing! It was a gift from God, I have no doubt.

I was actually able to see the end of a rainbow! There was no pot of gold, although it was technically the beginning of the rainbow... the pot of gold may have been on the other side.

Have any of you ever before seen where the rainbow reached the ground? Either end of it?

I grabbed my cell phone to capture a picture of it, but when I was able to, while still driving safely, the rainbow started to fade and was once again in the midst of the Cain Field... no longer in the open field. Oh how I wish I would have pulled over to take that picture when I had the chance.

Although I'm very thankful I was able to see it. :)

This is all I was able to get.
